BC: Like to play a new song for you now. Never before played. I just wrote it last night. I usually don't explain songs that I write but I'd like to explain this one a little bit, if you'll indulge me. As some of you may know, we, uh, we're doing two residencies: we did one in Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville...hippie capital of the east. (crowd cheers) Uh, heh, yeah, exactly. And uh...and uh, the whole idea of doing these kind of many shows in one place is to just get comfortable and write some songs and try to take some chances and actually play music for a change, thank you. And uh, I was very successful, I felt, in Asheville, I–I caught whatever the vibe was in the air, which was some sort of like hippie 2000 thing. And uh, we had a great time and uh, but I have to say, since I've come to San Francisco, I've had a hard time. I've, uh, I don't blame San Francisco, I blame myself, but had a hard time dialing this place in. Everywhere I go, there's a lot of angry fuckin' homeless people, angry-–lotta angry people on the trolley, lotta angry fuckin' people, everywhere I go, angry angry angry. Why so angry? (crowd is loud) I know, it's my fault...and uh, heh heh. No, I'm just saying, I--maybe it's me, maybe it's where I hang out, but...my time in San Francisco has been kind of a...a mixture of beauty and, like, I don't understand, maybe, beauty and I don't understand. Like there's something beautiful, there's something I don't understand. So uh...

So uh...

Guy in crowd: Smash hits!

BC: ...yes, I know it's hard to have an opinion these days, but I actually do have one. And uh...(crowd cheers)...according to our president, I will be shot for having an opinion. God forbid anybody has an opinion. And actually signs their name, as opposed to, you know, J Dog 123, you know what I mean? Like I, you know, when I say I have an opinion, you like, you know it's me, you know? So anyway, so uh, finally last night in sort of frustration, I finally found something I wanted to say for San Francisco, to San Francisco, from me, about me, not about you. Like I said, I don't blame this place, I blame myself for not understanding, so...that's what this song is about, if it makes any sense. Obviously the people at the bar are not from San Francisco, heh heh. They're from Asheville. Anyway, this song is called Peace and Love and All That Other Shit.
