DJ 1: Q101, live from The United Center, we're backstage right now, where The Smashing Pumpkins just ended a two hour set. This is uh, I believe just the break between sets, they will go on for another encore, and uh, really, the only way we can describe this is "wow". And if you're listening around the world, this is Q101 WKQX, Chicago, broadcasting again, live. The second-to-last Smashing Pumpkins show, ever. And uh, Billy Corgan, came out in his patented, I don't know if you'd call it a dress, perhaps you'd call it a gown, but either way, if you've seen 'em, seen him in the last couple of years live, or if you've seen The Everlasting Gaze video, you've seen this outfit. Uh, but instead of the black outfit, tonight he came out in a white version of it, and the band played about five acoustic songs, uh, including Today and Drown. Now at the end of the last acoustic song, the band left the stage, all except for Jimmy Chamberlin, who kept drumming, he came back out, and Billy had on the black version of that outfit. And then the band uh, played, uh, what can only be described as a scorched earth set of music. Lights going crazy, band just rocking for lack of a better term uh, for several songs, and the show has been filled with, with, everything you could want to hear from the Pumpkins. Music from Gish, and of course music from Siamese Dream, and a lot of stuff from uh, the Machina albums, both one and two, and of course if uh, you know, if you have been online to get Machina II, you know that stuff. Or if you might have won one of the CD copies from Q101 uh, you know that stuff as well. And of course we're waiting for the Pumpkins to go back on stage, which they should do within a matter of minutes. Um, surprises tonight? Not so far, but we think that a lot of surprises will be saved for the encore presentation, so we know Billy's dad is in attendance tonight, and Billy's dad, if you don't know, is a guitarist in his own right, he's been a musician for a long time, he uh, helped in making Billy the guitarist that he is, and uh, he's played with Billy before. So we know that during soundcheck, Billy's dad was out there, playing guitar on a couple of uh, numbers with Billy. So we may see him tonight, at least that's the buzz through the crowd. Uh, Jimmy Flemion of The Frogs, he's a good friend of the Pumpkins, is out there as well, he may be coming out, uh, and uh, we don't know what else the Pumpkins have in store for us tonight. Uh, Muzzle was dedicated to the fans of the band, and it's sort of a sad song, which I believe was actually written to Billy's wife before they got a divorce, but now he's sort of dedicated that one to the fans. He's saying goodbye, saying "thank you very much", all things surely have to end, great love one day has to part. You know the song. Billy sang a solo acoustic version of that song, which was actually pretty moving here in the cavernous United Center, in Chicago, Illinois. Other highlights, they went back to Gish for Rhinoceros, which was a great song, they did Mayonaise from Siamese Dream. The um, Everlasting Gaze, was a, was a huge highlight, into uh, into Bullet with Butterfly Wings. And that was just, the crowd was in a frenzy, an absolute frenzy, when the Pumpkins did that. Again, we're waiting for them to go back on stage, and they should be doing that in just a couple of minutes from what we understand. You're listening to Q101's commercial-free broadcast. So the second-to-last Smashing Pumpkins show. Of course, we're a few days away from the last Smashing Pumpkins show, which will happen at Metro on Saturday night, and we've heard reports, by the way, the tickets for that show? Now the Pumpkins, going back on stage right now, and we'll throw it back to the stage, here at The United Center in Chicago, Illinois, this is Q101.<br>

We heard Cherub Rock, and then Ava Adore, um, I'm thinking they've got a few more albums to cover over the next couple of encores, and we'll see how it goes. Uh, the crowd here, you can't even imagine, the range of human beings here, the ages, the people, people who have been there since day one, since they were playing places like Avalon and Lounge Ax, and people who are perhaps new to the Pumpkins legacy, and watching this band for the first time and probably their last, just spellbound, awestruck. And the interesting thing about watching the Pumpkins tonight, uh, I've seen the Pumpkins a million times, and there seems to be, they seem to really be enjoying themselves. I mean, they're going out, they're really going out on a high note. Billy Corgan, smiling, joking. Iha, always quick with the dry lines onstage. They're just, they really seem to be basking in the moment, as they should. And that's what's going on. Pumpkins are right now at the side of the stage, getting organized. I'm seeing a lot of lighters, seeing a lot of double horns in the air. And uh, yeah, it's a given, they'll be marching back on mere minutes. Uh, they're enjoying a cold beverage, taking a breath. DJ 2: Lot of smoke coming out from side stage, there's a ground-swell of people from the second teir, for a minute I thought it was happening, but uh, Whip, you got a way better vantage point than I got.
DJ 1: Yeah, I'm still looking down the corridor, they're not coming yet, but uh, we were told three minutes, about three minutes ago, so it could be literally any second. There are some people who look like they'd be friends of the Pumpkins, I, you know, rock star looking people coming this way, which might mean that the Pumpkins are doing their uh, you know, their pre-show chant or meditation or something, where they clear the dressing room.
DJ 3: Now I know there's a little green tent on one side of the stage, are either one of you guys able to see that, see inside that? Maybe the band's hanging there, waiting to jump out
DJ 1: I'm looking for the tent of which you speak, and I don't see it. But I hope that they're not in there, because in that case—
DJ 2: Oh, you know what, uh, Chase? I just looked, I'm right next to it!
DJ 1: Okay Robert, they're clearing the way, I think they're about to clear me out of the way, but I will tell you, the Pumpkins should be on their way right now. DJ 1: Q101, live from The United Center, we're backstage right now, where The Smashing Pumpkins just ended a two hour set. This is uh, I believe just the break between sets, they will go on for another encore, and uh, really, the only way we can describe this is "wow". And if you're listening around the world, this is Q101 WKQX, Chicago, broadcasting again, live. The second-to-last Smashing Pumpkins show, ever. And uh, Billy Corgan, came out in his patented, I don't know if you'd call it a dress, perhaps you'd call it a gown, but either way, if you've seen 'em, seen him in the last couple of years live, or if you've seen The Everlasting Gaze video, you've seen this outfit. Uh, but instead of the black outfit, tonight he came out in a white version of it, and the band played about five acoustic songs, uh, including Today and Drown. Now at the end of the last acoustic song, the band left the stage, all except for Jimmy Chamberlin, who kept drumming, he came back out, and Billy had on the black version of that outfit. And then the band uh, played, uh, what can only be described as a scorched earth set of music. Lights going crazy, band just rocking for lack of a better term uh, for several songs, and the show has been filled with, with, everything you could want to hear from the Pumpkins. Music from Gish, and of course music from Siamese Dream, and a lot of stuff from uh, the Machina albums, both one and two, and of course if uh, you know, if you have been online to get Machina II, you know that stuff. Or if you might have won one of the CD copies from Q101 uh, you know that stuff as well. And of course we're waiting for the Pumpkins to go back on stage, which they should do within a matter of minutes. Um, surprises tonight? Not so far, but we think that a lot of surprises will be saved for the encore presentation, so we know Billy's dad is in attendance tonight, and Billy's dad, if you don't know, is a guitarist in his own right, he's been a musician for a long time, he uh, helped in making Billy the guitarist that he is, and uh, he's played with Billy before. So we know that during soundcheck, Billy's dad was out there, playing guitar on a couple of uh, numbers with Billy. So we may see him tonight, at least that's the buzz through the crowd. Uh, Jimmy Flemion of The Frogs, he's a good friend of the Pumpkins, is out there as well, he may be coming out, uh, and uh, we don't know what else the Pumpkins have in store for us tonight. Uh, Muzzle was dedicated to the fans of the band, and it's sort of a sad song, which I believe was actually written to Billy's wife before they got a divorce, but now he's sort of dedicated that one to the fans. He's saying goodbye, saying "thank you very much", all things surely have to end, great love one day has to part. You know the song. Billy sang a solo acoustic version of that song, which was actually pretty moving here in the cavernous United Center, in Chicago, Illinois. Other highlights, they went back to Gish for Rhinoceros, which was a great song, they did Mayonaise from Siamese Dream. The um, Everlasting Gaze, was a, was a huge highlight, into uh, into Bullet with Butterfly Wings. And that was just, the crowd was in a frenzy, an absolute frenzy, when the Pumpkins did that. Again, we're waiting for them to go back on stage, and they should be doing that in just a couple of minutes from what we understand. You're listening to Q101's commercial-free broadcast. They're just, they really seem to be basking in the moment, as they should. And that's what's going on. Pumpkins are right now at the side of the stage, getting organized. I'm seeing a lot of lighters, seeing a lot of double horns in the air. And uh, yeah, it's a given, they'll be marching back on mere minutes. Uh, they're enjoying a cold beverage, taking a breath.
