(crowd cheers) I don’t know if you got the e-mail but the Pumpkins broke up. But trust me, the Smashing Pumpkins are very much alive, okay? Now, I’d like to say a few things, okay? I hate the fuckin’ music business, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. It creates an environment that makes it hard to be in a band like the Smashing Pumpkins, okay? It’s lucky that band lasted as long as it did ‘cause they tried to fucking kill us and they did a pretty good job. Now, me standing here has nothing to do with against the Pumpkins, in fact it has everything to do with the Smashing Pumpkins, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the Smashing Pumpkins. I wouldn’t even be alive if it wasn’t for the Smashing Pumpkins. (crowd cheers) No one - no one on this planet loves that band more than I do and I appreciate that you want to hear those songs. I honor them, I honor that, okay? But there’s times to try new things - this is that time, okay? (crowd cheers) I stood on this - this stage right here in 1992 and played songs off Gish, okay, nobody knew who the fuck we were, okay? And there were people throwing beer and bottles, okay, and we still stood there and played our music, so don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m doing. I do know what I’m doing. If you trust me, all your dreams, all the things come true, just trust me a little bit, okay? (crowd cheers) As much - as much as I hate the stupid fucking record business, it’s the same proportion as how much I love you. That’s why I stand here, that’s why I try, that’s why I try new things, believe me, my life would be a lot easier if I just stood up here and played my old songs. You’d be happy, I’d sell more fuckin’ T-shirts, there would be more people standing in here, okay? I’m not stupid. (crowd cheers) But - but, okay, and this doesn’t have anything to do with me as me, this has me do as a fan, if rock and roll is so great, where are all the great bands? Where’s all this great music that’s supposed to be happening? It’s coming! Wait, it’s coming. There are great bands coming because the business is changing and the great bands will rise again. But you have to invest in the future, you have to try new things, you have to reach out and you have to want something. If you want the same thing over and over and over again, then that’s what you’re gonna get. You’re gonna get these fake fuckin’ bands playing fake fuckin’ music for the rest of your fucking life, okay? (crowd cheers) I play, ahem, I played one thousand concerts with the Smashing Pumpkins, ‘kay? I bled on this stage, I bled on stages all over the world and I really appreciate that you came and I really appreciate that you gave me that chance and if I disappointed you, I’m sorry.
